Passing the Torch

Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership, and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. The first Torch Clubs were chartered in 1970 to address the developmental needs of young people. Torch Clubs strive to offer positive experiences. Torch Club members work together and elect officers that show leadership. Together they implement activities that positively influence and help their community in many areas. They pride themselves on four main elements: service to Club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation.

At BGC Rockwall, the Torch Club currently has 11 members and is led by our youth development professional, Ms. Sam.

“The Torch Club kids are awesome! They enjoy being involved in anything Club related and they are incredibly responsible. On Earth Day the Torch Club decorated every classroom, delegated tasks to other Club members, and volunteered to pick up trash outside of Dobbs Elementary. I have noticed something pretty cool about our Torch Club kids. If one Club member doesn’t seem to have any friends, I often notice that the members of Torch Club are the ones to step up and make sure that everyone feels included”, affectionatly noted Ms. Sam.

Torch Club is a powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life.
